What goal would you love to reach? Do you believe you can do it? If you have twinges of self doubt, you aren’t alone.
Often we doubt our capability to achieve something, so we talk ourselves out of trying. We might say “I just don’t have time” (because that’s a really easy way out). Or we think “yeah right, I’m just not that talented”. Then we put it out of our minds and go on thinking success is for someone else, but not us.
I think it’s time for that to stop, don’t you? Growing and reaching goals is for everyone, not just a few especially talented people. So let’s dive in with a few ways you can crush your self doubt and start moving forward!
#1 Realize self doubt does not define who you are or what you are capable of.
Fact: None of us has even scratched the surface of our potential. You have so much more inside of you, just waiting to come out. Just because you haven’t done something yet, or don’t know exactly how to do it, doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of doing it! In fact, if you’re feeling pulled to try something new, it’s probably a role you were made to grow into. Which brings us to Way #2….
#2 Embrace Growth.
People aren’t designed to stay the same. But in our culture we have something of a personal growth crisis. It’s like once you reach your adult height and finish school, there’s nothing left? It’s not only ridiculous but tragic. If we fail to continue to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually throughout our lives, we miss out on the joy of experiencing our true potential.
So how do we grow personally? A great deal of growth happens when we stretch outside of our comfort zones and do things we’ve never done before. If you’re feeling self doubt, it’s a very good sign that you are on the right track to growing into a beautiful new phase of your life.
#3 Ditch Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter Syndrome is that feeling of “Who am I to be doing this amazing thing? Once people find out I’m a nobody I’m toast!” Well, guess what? You don’t have to hold a PhD to be able to add value to the world, or be a reality star to share an inspiring story. Whatever your background or experience, you have gifts that won’t do anyone any good unless you take them out of hiding and let them shine.
Realize too, that social media and celebrity culture are just weird. 😜 We see these perfectly crafted and branded personas, and they seem larger than life. The truth is that behind it all, there are imperfect people with real lives and real problems. Some may have admirable qualities, but putting them on a pedestal just isn’t healthy.
None of us are anything glorious, but we were all created to reflect glory. So let’s stop comparing ourselves to others. Instead, focus on how we can add value by using our gifts and being our authentic selves.
Tip inside a tip: Try connecting with people who have been successful in doing what you want to do. Once you get to know them and relate to them on other levels, you’ll see you aren’t so different after all.
#4 Get Into Action.
The reason we doubt our abilities is often because we just can’t see ourselves doing the thing we want to do. My own Young Living upline, Crown Diamond Darlene Weir, says this: “The belief that you can do it comes from doing it.” #yes
Still, trying to do everything at once can lead to overwhelm, burnout, and self sabotage from a subconscious mind that isn’t quite on board with all of your plans. Choose a tiny step you can take towards your goals, starting now.
Realize that even though you feel quite unprepared at the moment, skills can be acquired and knowledge can be gained. Maybe your first step is just checking out a book or doing some research. That is wonderful! Just begin moving forward. The confidence will come.
