How long have you been dealing with the same old emotional patterns? Like, forever, right? 🤦♀️ The longer we perpetuate emotional patterns in our daily lives, the more they are strengthened.
Imagine it like a rut in a gravel road that deepens the more it is driven over. To decrease the strength of a pattern or behavior, you need to deliberately replace it with something else.
Perhaps you have told yourself things like:
“Ugh, I hate myself for eating that” or
“I never exercise, I’m so lazy!”
Or, when you start dreaming of what you want to accomplish, a little voice pops us saying “No you can’t!” If any of these things sound familiar, you probably have some outdated mental programming.
How do we change it? 🤔
Much like computers need software updates to keep working properly, we need to update our mental programming in order to reach our full potential. My journey to updating my programming started when I read and amazing book called What to Say When You Talk to Yourself. (affiliate link 😊)
There is just no doubt that this book changed my life. Before I read it, no one had ever told me I was the one in control of my thoughts. I don’t think it had occurred to me that when an idea came into my mind, I could choose where to take it from there. Hey, just because a bird lands on your head, you don’t have to let it build a nest there! 😂
It’s true, you have control over your thoughts and they are powerful. I recently heard a quote from author and speaker Brian Tracy stating that “95% of your emotions are determined by how you talk to yourself.” Wow.
It’s true, we can change our emotional patterns just by changing how we talk to ourselves. When you give your brain new, positive thoughts, you are literally reprogramming your brain.
Just as Proverbs 18:12 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Your words are powerful. So, choosing to speak life into yourself (and others) is the first step in changing your emotional patterns, or that “old programming.” Try it. It just may change your life.
