I recently had something of a revelation about art. You see, when I was a kid I loved drawing and creating things, but at some point I just stopped. I never really understood what happened or why, but I knew I couldn’t get back to where I had been. I knew it was a loss.
Have you experienced something like that too? I guess it isn’t as uncommon as I imagined.
Last week I was listening to The Power of Vulnerability by Brené Brown on Audible. Brené Brown’s work is full of “Aha” moments for me, but this one took the cake. My quotes may be a little off since I was listening, not reading, but she said this:
“Around middle school we really start to see kids shutting down parts of who they are… We grow up, and around middle age, we realize, to be the parents, partners, people, professionals we want to be, we have to open up all of those places we shut down. Otherwise we will never have access to all the things we want and deserve. There’s something very heart wrenching about that, because we shut those things down because it hurt…”
Does that feel as true for you as it does for me? Being creative and doing work that shows your soul to the world is as vulnerable as it gets. It definitely takes courage, and as children we got to a point where we just didn’t feel safe putting ourselves out there. Now we know we have to try again, but it feels just as terrifying!
As painful, scary, and difficult as it is to dig up all the things we buried, it is necessary for us to fully live. I’ve been working on this a lot lately, and I can tell you it is worth the effort. Using the Aroma Freedom Technique has been pivotal in breaking through through my own mental sludge. 💩 If you’re feeling super stuck, maybe it can help you too. Drop me a note and I’ll tell you more about it.
So why not start reawakening your truest self? If you’re an artist, paint something! If you’re a writer, write something! No one has to see it, not yet. Do it for you. 💗
P.S. Putting an inspiring oil blend in the diffuser helps get those creative juices flowing again. Yes, for real, it works! I love Inspiration, a blend of powerful oils that was formulated to help us find a calm space in our minds and bring us closer to that creative center where our higher intuition operates. 🎨👍
