There are a lot of people going through trials right now. Are you one of them? When you’re suffering, having a support system is so important. It makes me sad when I see someone reaching out, desperate just for a listening ear, but at the same time apologizing for sharing their story.
Have you ever felt that way? Do you worry that others might view you as a Negative Nelly if you tell them how your really feel? No one wants to be thought of as a pessimist, right? But while being an optimist is wonderful, if you go about it wrong it’s going to backfire. What do I mean by that?
Well, optimism should not involve pretending problems do not exist. This is where die hard optimists (myself included) can get themselves into trouble. While it’s good to believe that things will work out in the end, you have to realize they will NOT magically work out if you don’t put in the work! Accepting reality, and then making a plan to deal with your situation is much more empowering than sticking your head in the sand and waiting for a windfall.
Secondly, even optimists need to vent sometimes. Do people think of you as “the strong one” or “the happy one”? If so, it can be hard to admit that you too have problems. Realize that by sharing your story, you may inspire someone else who is going through something similar. Of course, you don’t have to share everything with everyone! But don’t automatically assume that no one wants to hear what you have to say.
Finally, if you’re trying to navigate this whole optimism thing, it may be because you’ve struggled with negative feelings. Optimism is really making your thoughts work for you. Pessimism and negativity happen when we ruminate on thoughts that are no longer serving us. While you have to deal with your problems, you don’t have to dwell on your problems. Make the shift to focusing on the solution.
One of my favorite essential oils for shifting out of a negative mental state is Believe. Do you need an oil to change your mindset? Of course not, it just HELPS. 🙂 If you’d like more information on oils, click here.
